What literary elements are in this novel?

Tone= mood,Diction,Irony,Theme,Structure,Style... = magery=personification,assossance,allite...

The studio was filled with the rich odour of roses, and when the light summer wind stirred amidst the trees of the garden, there came through the open door the heavy scent of the lilac, or the more delicate perfume of the pink-flowering thorn.

From the corner of the divan of Persian saddle-bags on which he was lying, smoking, as was his custom, innumerable cigarettes, Lord Henry Wotton could just catch the gleam of the honey-sweet and honey-coloured blossoms of a laburnum, whose tremulous branches seemed hardly able to bear the burden of a beauty so flame like as theirs; and now and then the fantastic shadows of birds in flight flitted across the long tussore-silk curtains that were stretched in front of the huge window, producing a kind of momentary Japanese effect, and making him think of those pallid, jade-faced painters of Tokyo who, through the medium of an art that is necessarily immobile, seek to convey the sense of swiftness and motion. The sullen murmur of the bees shouldering their way through the long unmown grass, or circling with monotonous insistence round the dusty gilt horns of the straggling woodbine, seemed to make the stillness more oppressive. The dim roar of London was like the bourdon note of a distant organ.

In the centre of the room, clamped to an upright easel, stood the full-length portrait of a young man of extraordinary personal beauty, and in front of it, some little distance away, was sitting the artist himself, Basil Hallward, whose sudden disappearance some years ago caused, at the time, such public excitement and gave rise to so many strange conjectures.

What literary elements are in this novel?
"The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde contains numerous literary elements. It contains all that you have listed (tone, diction, irony, theme, etc.). However, some of them shift throughout the novel, so it is difficult to give you a definitive answer. Are you referring to just the section you quoted?

My cat ran away from home a month ago!!?

I moved house about a month ago and when i took my 1 year old male cat to the new house he ran straight upstairs and jumped out the top bedroom window into the garden and jumped over the wall and ran off. I went looking for him but couldnt find him. I live next to lots of lanes that lead to everywhere, even to the town centre! Will he ever come back? He didnt know his way around the area either. Please help

My cat ran away from home a month ago!!?
Sorry to say this, but I don't think he's coming back. Some cats don't respond well when their owners relocate.
Reply:a few minutes ago your cat was only 4 months old. do you have more than one cat? if so then you have already lost one so why would you even consider letting the other one out?
Reply:sweetie go look for your beloved puss in your old area, cats are well known to return to their old house if they are not used to the new area, you will probably find he has returned to your old house so if it is not possible to get back there you could always write to the new occupant and see if your cat has turned up there it is doubtful he will return to your new address as it is not familiar to him, if you get him back please make sure you keep him in for at least two weeks or he will only run off again. i hope you find him safe and well.
Reply:A month ago??? Have you looked at shelters? Put up missing pet posters? Taken an ad out in the classifieds? There is no way to know for sure whether or not he'll return home.
Reply:cats need a few weeks to adjust to new surroundings.. hopefully your cat will return to you, although I dont know how he could if he doesn't know where he is.

I sympathise though, my cat ran away aswell a couple of years ago. Hope he returns!
Reply:I'm now confused.

I just answered another question from you regarding a 4 month old kitten?

I'm presuming you've already lost one cat??
Reply:It doesn't seem likely he'll come back to a place he doesn't know after a month has gone by. Have you tried checking sheds, garages, back lots and store-rooms around the area where you used to live? Putting up posters offering a small reward? If that doesn't help, you may have lost him for good. I hope not!
Reply:It is unlikely, because he is probably trying to find his way back to your old home. I, however, did have a cat that ran away and came back 2 years later. It was amazing. Most likely someone has taken the cat in and is treating him well. I'm sorry for your loss, but hope your kitty returns.
Reply:U cant move a cat once they get in their teritory for a while they sont want to get to a new one
Reply:A month ago?

I'd have put flyers up within a 5 block area around me, and called every vet close by plus animal control. Then every two days make a trip to animal control and the humane society to visually check the animals they have there (paperwork can be botched enough you NEED to do a visual) and check with animal control about what dead animals they were called to dispose of.

Bare minimum--that's what I'd do to start. But after a month here for you.......I can't offer anything.
Reply:Check with previous neighbours and register him missing with local vets, RSPCA and other pet finder places such as Petsearch UK. I hope he was microchipped, if not, even if someone does find him (alive or dead) you won't get him back. If he's been injured, if he was chipped they would contact you (assuming you've updated the chip detail register). One of my cats disappeared a couple of months ago for a fortnight and he came back on his own accord. He disappeared again about a month ago and I just hope someone is feeding him or he's turned feral (meaning he would be able to look after himself a bit). Cats are laws unto themselves.

I'm sure you will know for next time to ensure all windows etc are closed and to keep them in for a couple of weeks.

Hope he comes back.
Reply:Try searching in the area you moved from!! You would be surprised how many pets make it back to their original home, no matter how far they have to travel!! You may have to do some lnocking on doors! It may just be that some well-meaning neoghbour has started to feed your cat, and have taken him in. Don't give up hope....keep seaching, and good luck!!
Reply:If you are in the UK, have you contacted "Pet Search"?

The local Pet Searcher keeps a record of all reported lost and found pets and matches them up.

Have you asked the Police if anyone has reported a "found" cat to them?

They should be able to give you the phone number of Pet Search.

Have you tried the local branch of the RSPCA or is there a Celia Hammond Trust or Cat Action Trust near you. They also take in found cats. There may be a Found notice in the Vets.

In a month, he could have wandered many miles.
Reply:if it has run away maybe because it doesn`t like its new environment, %26amp;if it doesn`t return it may have settled down as a feral cat ze dont have a gd memory (a cat lived in my house 4 3 days ,i gave it to someone else as pet %26amp; now it doesn`t seem to recogniz me at all)
Reply:Really sorry for your situation. Losing a cat is very upsetting. The odds are that the puss is gone but you could check the local cat rescue if you haven't done so already as they do collect a lot of strays and re home them. Alternatively publish a photo of your cat in the local free paper with a number to call or even put notices up in Tesco and local shops. Some cats will just wander a bit then take up a new home if there's someone prepared to feed them. Sadly a lot of cats don't make it when they go missing - you have to be prepared for this possibility.

Have you been in touch with the place you moved from? there are some cats that will find their way home even over longer distances and can take some time to do this. Don't give up hope yet either - I had neighbours years ago whose cat went missing for four months and he still came back to the house they'd only recent;y moved to. Do hope it works out for you. If it doesn't please consider giving another one a home - there aren't enough spaces for all of the cats that need one!
Reply:poor kitty =(
Reply:Well im sorry to say im almoast positive he's not coming back. Maby think about getting a new cat. Im sorry to hear that I hope everything works out :D
Reply:i lost a cat that way some years ago, but i was suprised to find he hadnt gone far, i continued to call him constantly all round the roads nearby every day and he must of heard me. He will recognise your voice and stay close, he may be frightened and not recognise where he is, but if you keep calling him you may be lucky! Also let the local vets know, anyone who may have befriended him are likely to check with the vets if he has been reported lost. Cats are not stupid, if they are hungry and not used to finding their own food they will eventually try a neighbour or 'adopt ' someone.
Reply:i don't think he's coming back although you might want check your old neighborhood. cats and dogs have been known to go back to their old neighborhoods after a move. i certainly hope you checked the area shelters too.

any new pets you may get, make sure they have a collar with at least your name and number on it.
Reply:OMG. keep searching! Cats dont react well when there in a diffrent place.

Check the shelters, any ones near by!

oor check the pet shops, they sell cats there.

or if someone you dont know calls you, listen to them, they probobly have your cat!

If you still cant find him, just wait for a bit, he might come home,

But next month if he's not home, there's no hope :(
Reply:animals know sences....they will find the way back to the other house thinking that is where he is suppose to be...look around the old house and if theres someone living there just ask them to keep and eye out for the cat...
Reply:you might find him somewhere doing an impresion of an MFI flatpack at the side of the road

What should I do????

My mom works in a flower that's part of a grocery chain, and during the summer she partially runs a garden type centre during the summers months. Now this guy that went to my high school works there too , and one day told my mom that he had remember me in school and that he wanted my MOM to set up a date! I kinda liked him before but I was a little weired out by it. And the thing is too if i do want to date him i have to tell my mom to tell him which is also kinda odd. So should I say yes or leave it????

What should I do????
It depends on if you really want to. If you would go out with him under different circumstances then do not hesitate under these circumstances. I say go for it!!!
Reply:You need to decide for yourself if you want to have a relationship with him or not and if you do, then rather than send messages through your mom (though that is how it got to you) you need to handle your business for yourself. Go to him and give him a response, let him know that you find him attractive and you would like to get to know him better. Once you two continue to send messages to eachother through your mom you would never get to know eachother well. So if you are interested, break the messaging chain-third wheel relationship that has already started and respond in person.
Reply:Give it a try, it's only a date, it's like youre marrying the guy. Hang out with him and talk to him and see how this guy is. Keep him as a friend for awhile even if you want, don't rush into anything if you don't like him.
Reply:dunno whatya shoud do but if u luv him kiss him he will feel good
Reply:just leave it.
Reply:What if instead of having your mom play the intermediary, she simply gives him your phone number?
Reply:every one needs a connection of some sort to go out with the person they wanna especially for the first time but your thing is different and it is like in this relationship with this guy your mom will have a big say so do you want to be in a relationship where your say matters after someone else's?
Reply:You should just go and see what happens!
Reply:Leave it and visit her @ work and wait for him to ask.
Reply:I agree with Isadora. Go for it, you have nothing to lose. It wouldn't hurt for him to ask you out either, maybe he is really shy.
Reply:if you want just say yes and if you dont want to just say no. dont do something if you dont like it.
Reply:That is kind of weird. It's up to you whether or not you date him. If you really like him, then go for it.

Personally, I would be mad because he went behind my back and asked my mom to ask me (like he thinks you're more likely to agree to it if your mother gets involved). I'd say no until he gets the balls enough to ask me himself instead of getting others involved, but that's just me...I get mad easily, especially if I think that someone's trying to be manipulative to get at me.
Reply:say YES!!! but tell him yourself dont have your mom do it for you maybe go to his work and tell him for yourself

Gardening help?

I have a palm type tree in my garden but its recetly got really big and is pushing against the neighbours fence and he is complaining about it. Is there anyway that I can move it without damaging the tree because I don't paticulally want to get rid of it but rather move it more towards the centre of the garden. Also is there a time of year that is better to move it than others?

Gardening help?
Palm trees have a really really deep rooting system, with a tree that size you would have to dig down a long way to to get a good size root ball for it to survive.

you could dig it out a meter down, and get 6 or 7 people to help pull it out and move it to a new location.

once you have you will have to trim off most of the leaves as or it will die. but it will recover after a while.
Reply:The chances are that the roots go under the fence. If you want to move it, you'll need some cooperation from your neighbour, but you may find that he'll help if it gets him what he wants.

You need to dig all the way around the tree so that you leave a big root ball. You may need to take down part of the fence. Dig a big hole where you want the tree to go. Loosen the soil at the bottom of the hole, then flood it. Lift the tree, drop it in the new hole and pack soil around it. You should have enough soil left over to make good the hole where you dug it out from. Now mend your neighbour's fence.
Reply:How tall is the tree?

If you try to dig it out your self its gowing to be a very big job. the three will way about 1000 lb. ether you will have to cut it down and plant a new won ore get a thre mover dolly in there.
Reply:the time to move it is between November 5 and April 14 as the sap has stopped rising but it may be to big to move you can only try good luck

Cardiff, Wales - property - I have £150k - where would be a good area to buy a family house?

I need to find a house in Cardiff in Wales

Somewhere in a nice area with enough space for me, wife and child - 2 bedrooms plus - doesn't have to be too close to centre but would like something with enough space and garden - your ideas would be most welcome!!!

Cardiff, Wales - property - I have £150k - where would be a good area to buy a family house?
In this rare instance I may have struck a good enough bargain.

Only an idea, though I have some acquired updates from His

Majesty client seaworth. This old company is not allowed since

the Olympiad bought a fishing license for the Miller clubs fishing. This professional bird and aviary office is looking for investores and has a handsome selection that William has offered to correspond to me. A cousin of mine, I rarely travel to

the islands, in France you know of Monte carlos. Please feel

encouraged to ask about this good investment, nice to see you

trusting our ISP you see. Any reputable broker will help you

about Millers Olympiad offices of 1990s property designs.
Reply:sorry, I don't have the money to think of that...
Reply:Best schools are generally in Cardiff North, Cardiff South is not as affluent. The most expensive areas are Lisvane and Cyncoed. Next look at Rhiwbina, Lakeside, Whitchurch, The Heath, Penylan and Roath. £150k wont get you much in a nice area of Cardiff unless you go for an ex local authority house.

What is your favourite arenas for WWE?

    Mine are.........

Rogers Centre (Skydome) in Toronto Canada- I've always enjoyed the Skydome. I remember going to a lot of Blue Jay games but my favourite memory of the Skydome was seeing WWF Wrestlemania X8 live! I sat 18th row and that was one of my fav moments.

Air Canada Centre (Toronto, Canada) I like the ACC, its a good arena, GREAT for sound and just good to be in. Any seat in the ACC is a good one. Ive been to alot of events there. Ive been to every WWE event in the Air Canada Centre since October 2000.

Staples Center (Los Angeles, CA) Ive never been there before, but I like the way it looks and I will go there some day! They get alot of Raws there :(

Madison Square Garden (New York City, NY) Alot of good stuff with WWF/WWE happened at the garden so its one of my fav places to watch wrestling on tv from. I will also go there one day, maybe next year.

Reply:The only place Ive seen WWE live was at Madison Square Garden in NYC and I wouldn't want to see WWE anywhere else. There's something about the atmosphere at the Garden you can't explain and the fans are really into it. FYI Raw will be at the Garden on Sept 11 2006 and Summerslam 2007 will also take place at the Garden.
Reply:The Toyota Center(Houston, TX) I went live to No Mercy there.
