Help, engagement ring valuation?

I have just had made; in Hatton Garden, London (Diamond Centre of London), a diamond engagement ring, as follows;

- Round Centre Stone - 1.26 carats quality GVS1

- Platinum band with 10 shoulder diamonds (5 each side) same quality as above and weighing in, in total to 0.40 carats.

Apparently I paid significantly less than the retail price but what is the retail price, in your opinon???

Help, engagement ring valuation?
You have not given us enough infromation.

What is the grade of cut (or at least the depth and table figures)?

Is the G at the start of GVS1 the colour grading? g is the lowest rating in the colourless range.

Coupled with your above info and if these two aspects are at the top of their charts I would expect the ring to go for about $11,000, if at the lower end $5000.

How much did you pay?
Reply:If you bought your diamond at a retail store, you paid 300% too much. This is a well known fact if you know anything about diamonds at all. You say it's a VS1.... what's the color? VS1 is the clarity, what's the cut? Is it good, fair, excellent? The polish? The symmetry? Where is it certified from? I could go on and on...... Do you have a Gemex Light Report on the diamond? Is it a branded diamond? Is it a hearts and arrows cut?...... yada yada yada.... Ok, if it's a hearts and arrows, and it's excellent in all areas, and say a J in color.... your ring should have a US retail of around $18,000 to $20,000..... But, that's just an educated guess without all your info....
Reply:You need to ask a certified jewelry appraiser
Reply:Unless there is a jewler on here your probley not going to get a good estimate. I would go to a different jewler (maybe to buy a wedding day gift) and ask what the cost of this ring would be.
Reply:I don't really know but if you browse online stores where you can build your own engagement ring, you will be able to find the same quality diamonds and similar or same band.

Reply:Do you have a certificate on each of the diamonds with the number? That will help...take it to another jewler and have it appraised. Retail price has nothing to do with actual value.
