UK only: What do you think of Wythenshaw (North West UK))?

I am about to buy my first house in the North West with someone.

We have been looking in Salford, which is very close to the centre of Manchester but never found a good 3 bed house with garden in this area - always something wrong.. . too expensive or the garden is inexistant..

We ended up finding something in Wythenshaw, which doesn't seem to have a heart nor a soul as a town.. only a big gym and a brand new Asda. Let me know if I am wrong because the house we found is really nice and has a garden!

I was brought up in wythenshawe ....Things changed over he years and it is an up and coming area .. with rising house prices



Wythenshawe is quite central which is handy and has a good town centre ...



Not too far from disbury either .. your home is what you make it .. speak to the neighbours if you are concerned



Edit .. yes it is a huge council estate which explains the house prices but not all people who live on council estates are trash ...



Council estates have community spirit ... i used to live in woodhouse park and we were never bothered ...



I would speak to the neighbours as sometimes the nice house may be the wrong move ...



Go and have a drive round in the evening to get an idea of what night time is like if you are concerned ..

Reply:Wythenshawe's just one big council estate. Why on earth are you moving there?
Reply:Its a scary place, one giant, sprawling council estate with tin roofs. I worked in a children's home and had to pass through Wythenshaw by public transport. I was terrified, especially on entering the estate when leaving Didsbury off the dual-carriage. Everyone that got on either smoked, swore or spat, sometimes in different orders. Their tattoos were spelt wrong and most of them had an alcoholic drink in hand. Why leave Didsbury anyway, its really smart!?.
Reply:wythenshawe is the biggest council estate going it as a couple a ruff parts, benchill hill and newall green , the flats next to the Church.

lovely park in wythenshawe it as a lot a history and belonged to my wythenshawe, top garden if you have kids they will love it. tennis courts golf and bowling, for the adults.

the civic shops local to wythenshawe have everything you need,schools all but the ones on benchill hill are sorted then they is only a nursery really in benchill.



you do get a few ruff people but like that anywhere you go.



i love wythenshawe me a few good friends, woodhouse park is the best part if you ask me

Reply:wythenshawe the biggest council estate in the world, go drive threw it and count the coppers, when you see none you will know why, and you will get houses dead cheap there lol

Reply:Noooo don't do it - it's a hellish place, honestly.

We used to live in Gatley (quite close) which is quite a nice area, and when we had our village fete, the Wythenshawe families used to come down with their pit bulls and tattooed bellies hanging out.

It's an awful place - if you're looking for South Manchester area, try Sale, Gatley, Cheadle, even Withington, but don't go to Wythenshawe - it's cheaper for a reason.

There's no point having a nice house and garden if you don't feel safe or happy in the neighbourhood.

Reply:Wythenshawe is Europes biggest council estate,certain parts are better than others, Baguley Isn't too bad, Benchill is a S**thole, Woodhouse park is being done up with lots of apartments (just flats made to look trendy), Basically the nearer to the centre (CIVIC %26amp; BUS STN) the C rapier it is.
