Sacred Space?

My personal sacred space is a small area in the garden that I have planted as a Grove. It is surrounded by trees, Ash, Birch, Holly, Fig, Cherry, Elder, Apple and Sycamore with a small fire pit in the centre. It has a small altar on which I make offerings and keep a flame burning most of the time. It is my meditation space in good weather and a place where I perform ritual. I share it with friends and family too whenever the opportunity arises.


Do you have a sacred space, and will you tell me about it?

Sacred Space?
I spent a lot of time these past summer months creating my sacred space in my back yard. It is a big yard, surrounded by oak trees and a big redwood tree. In the center is a piece of earth colored cement about 10 feet by 7 feet, and in the middle of this I painted a BIG Triple Goddess in white. Then I have 4 altars, one for each of the Quarters. The East Altar has light colored Asian plants, and there is a bust of Kwan Yin in the middle. The South Altar has a fire pit, and 3 enormous boulders, for Maiden, Mother and Crone, and a Polynesian carved "native" man, and a rock that my sister painted to look like a coiled red and yellow snake. The West Altar has blue flowers and a water feature, and the North Altar has a miniature mountain range, a fawn and a frog, and an abundance of green plants.





So my space has the Triple Goddess from which I start, and I cast there, I do rituals there, and I can get in touch with Air, Fire, Water,Earth, going around to each altar, and then I reach my hands up for the Spirit, and there I see the squirrels and birds and the sky.





It is a fantastic place to get totally in myself, meditate, re-charge my batteries.

I can talk with both, and know they can hear me...... and I get peace in return.





There is a place I drive to in the city, where I go to be by myself, yes....... I think everyone has one of these.

Reply:I am building one in my garden. It is in the shape of a triangle surrounded by foilage with and Oblisk on the east side, I have not decided how I am going to surface it. Crushed Granite? Stone, or wood muclh? . I don't know if it means anything but it's going to be pretty and a nice refuge.

I do most of my praying in the car and while sitting on the toilet.





Don't laugh.....it's true. I talk to the Lord in the most precarious of places.
Reply:my living room--I have 3 deity altars and a working altar, a stang in the corner, incense burning all the time--who needs TV?
Reply:My sacred space is my back deck. The old growth forest (with 4-8 foot tree trunks) comes so close I can almost touch the trees, so it's like I'm on a platform in the middle of the trees...sort of like Galadriel's home in Lord of the Rings. It's very uplifting.
Reply:I have one specific stall that I like to go to while I'm at work. I often get upset if someone else is in there. In these cases, I don't usually leave an offering.
Reply:i had one, but circumstances caused me to remove it. i'm thinking about another one. i miss it.

Reply:When I was growing up, we had a shrine in our house, complete with candles, statuary, and religious art. My parents taught me to kneel and pray there from the time I was old enough to talk. I prayed there a lot, and felt that it was a sacred space.





Later, I found that a certain room at my church that has candles and religious art is a sacred space to me. There's no reason for people to enter that room, except to light a candle and/or pray. It's a space set aside specifically for prayer.





The space in my house where my crucifix is located is a sacred space.





But lately, I've been feeling that I'd like to find a sacred space outdoors somewhere. Praying outdoors isn't exactly something I was ever encouraged to do during my religious upbringing, but it's been making more sense to me lately. So I'm looking for a nice little space to consecrate and make my own. In a larger sense, though, I could say that everywhere is a sacred space, since I believe that the Divine is everywhere and in everything.

Reply:I currently don't though I used to have a room in my home that was my sacred space for doing art, writing, meditation and yoga. We moved to a new house and still haven't unpacked plus my girls keep me too busy at the moment. I miss that.
Reply:i miss the menorah and candles. i would light them and


pray for world peace. your space sounds so beautiful.
Reply:Actually I have several. My favorite is under a very old Oak the lightening hit a few years ago and split it down the middle. It still survives even after that and I find it to be a sacred palce of power, communication with Nature Spirits and Godess and God. I leave an offering there everytime I go there and sit and just contemplate nature. It's also a favorite palce to go and lay on my back at night and watch the stars.

Reply:We have an upstairs loft where I have my altar and a little rug I sit on in front of it. It's quiet, there is a window, and most of the time the kitties follow me up there. I hope to make a medicine wheel in the garden soon, too. Just have to clear out some of the weeds.
Reply:I haven't created my outdoor sacred space yet. Though there is a nice shady spot by the creek that might be used.





My bedroom is my sacred space right now. It's just so peaceful in there.

Reply:I have a Gaea and elemental altar on my north wall. I also have a Kwan Yin Altar for contemplation and meditation, I have a Kwan Ti altar for protection and household guardian and a lovely Garden out back with standing stones and elemental representations for Ritual and just hanging out and I have a brick fireplace hearth where a sacred flame is always burning and offerings are made. My whole house is an altar and sacred space!
Reply:mine is in my backyard - a little arbor made of oak enclosed with quince and forsythia, opening onto a rock fountain and pond that goes into a little creek....my kids helped me build it.
Reply:Mine is a small area on our five acres that is slightly elevated and about 30ft by 30ft. It's in the south-east corner of the property and surrounded on three sides by elm, ash, oak, hawthorn and willow (the west side is open). The residents before us left behind a large section of a concrete pipe that's about 4ft. tall and 3ft in circumfrence. As soon as I can figure out how to move the monster out there (it's at the north-west corner of the five acres)...I plan to fill it to the top with dirt for my altar and plant some flowers around it except for the west section (so I can stand at it and face east). At the edge of the clearing I plan to dig small fire pits (at north, east, south, west) for lighting during night-time "activities". I hope to have it complete by Samhain.
