my dog was trained to wee and poop in the centre of the garden when it was lawn, but a few days ago I had to pave the centre area because of all the mess the mud was making.
She is 2 years old rottweiler and i dont know how to teach her to poop and wee on the sides where there is lawn. can you help?
Dog Pooping problem, needs training, any tips?
You'll have to put her on a leash when she has to go and take her to the place you want her to go. Tell her to "hurry up" or whatever word/words you want to use and when she goes give her a treat and some upbeat words and pats. She will get the drift pretty fast. If you do this consistently she should have it in a few days. GOOD LUCK!!
Reply:You sound desprate. I have a meathod that works, but may seem unfair to the dog. I trained all our dogs to go outside rather than inside and one family pet labled untrainable uses the pet door like the other dogs and goes where we specify.
First "is the dog house trained?" A chemical available from one of those leaflet sales fliers that come in the mail. The chemical will train the dog to NOT go certain places. I think one can be used to specify a place.
My method reqires direct contact with the dog and complete control over the dog's responses. When found doing a job in the wrong place, stop him or her in the act and tell it "Bad Dog" repeatably, then take the dog (and the job it did) to the place of choice. drop the job where you choose and tell the dog "Good dog" and praise it as if the dog dropped it there.
If this does not work, resort to drastic means push their nose in it, when done in the wrong place, then take the dog and the job to the OK spot again saying "Good dog."
I am certain there may be better ways, but this works, even on untrainable dogs. Grandson brought is dog over and was trained in a few hours. No more accidents by the next morning or thereafter at our place.
Next comes untraining the problem spots at home. The dog will revert to prior actions unless trained otherwise. That dog never did anything in our house again.
Puppies and dogs want our loving attention, that is a fact. They are pretty bright about what we train them, but lack of training is also training that the action is OK.
One pet puppy was progressing nicely when I had to go out of town. The well meaning brother staying with us used another method that did/does not work for house training. Upon finding a puddle, the brother would scould the puppy gently, then use a cloth to soak up the puddle. The dog learned it is OK to go in the house, brother will clean up the puddle. By the time I returned, we had to start more drastic measures; a stronger voice of "Bad dog" and more firm about "Outside" then immediately take him out to the approved area. Waiting for a more convienient time does not work. The event must be handled as discovered. All this is more complicated if there are more than one pet causing similar problems. Scoulding a dog about another dogs mess will cause pet fights, as you can imagine.
Reply:Put her on a leash and re train her, after several trys with rewards the same as when she was very first trained she should respond and retrain, if you use a clicker, be sure an click NO when she heads to the old place and reward when she goes where you want her to.. Age 2 is a good age for training, that is the age they start seeing eye and professional dogs so learning is at there prime right now just re train her as if she were a new puppy. You will have to be right there with her until she is consistent so you do have to work with her you can't just tell her you have to show her..
Good Luck
